Experimental School of Serres, Greece

Monday, July 1, 2013

Hello from the Experimental School of Serres, Greece. We have not written our news for a long time because we had too many things to do. A short time ago we visited the Planetarium in Thessaloniki, the biggest city in Northern Greece. There, we saw the museum of ancient Greek technology and three 3D documentaries. The first documentary was about Charles Darwin and the evolution of species as well as about one of the most complicated ancient mechanisms, the ancient mechanism of Antikythera. It is said that ancient people studied the stars with this mechanism. During our day school trip we went to the Archaeological Museum of Amphipolis. Amphipolis was an ancient city near Serres. It was brilliant!! A week ago an ecological festival was held in Serres, the Eco Festival. We took part in it and presented to other students “magic experiments of Science”. This year one of our school subjects was Byzantine art. So we decided to make ourselves our own mosaics (psifidota). We have sent you some photos of our works. At the end of our school year we presented the “Ornithes” (the birds) of Aristophanes. It is an ancient Greek comedy specially adapted for children. Nevertheless, we have some sad news. One of our fish died and we were very sad. That’s all our news. We wish you a happy summer From E1 of the Experimental school of Serres
